Intimidation

I’m intimidated by her.

She’s more than what the eye sees.

She’s intelligent

Strong

Independent

Confident.

She walks with her head high.

She’s balanced,

And don’t even get me started on those eyes.

She’s a force of nature,

But she’s different than the rest.

In a world full of wind,

She is fire.

Career Readiness

It’s no secret that I am absolutely in love with color guard. I want to be an instructor when I graduate. In order to become an instructor, I have to have lots of experience and certification. If I decide to instruct in a school, I will need to take the PRAXIS exam that all school teachers need to take. So far, I have some experience. I just finished my second (And last) season in West Plains High School Color Guard, and am participating in my second season in Spintronix Indoor Guard. Spintronix is very involved with social media, which helps me put myself out there faster and get noticed in the color guard world. I plan on auditioning for the Macy’s parade this Spring (That’s when they hold auditions… It takes a CRAZY amount of practice!) and participating in Spintronix until my age- out year (2022). After that, I plan on furthering my experience by judging while studying performance/ dance in college. I also plan to attend Summer Symposium to get my certification in Instruction.

College Readiness

So far, I’ve applied for 3 colleges, which are MSU Springfield, Mizzou, and Arkansas State. My dream college is MSU Springfield because they have an excellent music program and the music students are very involved on campus. I plan on majoring in Performance and then going to Summer Symposium to get my colorguard instruction certification. So far, I have applied and I am working on my ACT. I still have yet to fill out the FAFSA, but I’m working to get it filled out as soon as possible!

Dancing

Sometimes when I dance, the world seems to freeze. I get wrapped up in my own little world and time seems to slip away from me. One time, I was really upset about something that happened at home. I went outside at 4:40 on a warm day in August, put my headphones in, and started dancing. By the time I was out of energy, the sky was dark and it was 9:00 PM. Dancing is kind of an energy release for me. When I’m working on my turns and pirouettes, I tend to shut the world out and everything slows down. That’s what I enjoy the most about it, though.

The Career I’m Considering

My dream is to be a colorguard instructor after high school. Ever since I had the 6 foot tall pole and silk in my hands, I knew that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life; I had fallen in love with performing and colorguard in general. I have to go through quite a few obstacles, since this isn’t a very common job. I have to have quite a bit of experience, and I’ve only done colorguard for a total of four seasons (In two years), so I plan on marching for either Arkansas State University or Mizzou while continuing  to perform with Spintronix Indoor Guard during the winter. I also plan on studying Fine Arts or Music Education to further my knowledge with music and performance. If I decide to teach colorguard at a school, I will also have to take the Praxis exam, an exam all teachers have to take.
